The origin...
Since its formation in 2002, Mainline Adrenaline has taken seriously the task of changing preconceptions about hardcore and metal musicians and fans. Many people subscribe to the negative stereotypes that have been presented about people who play hardcore and metal music and those who enjoy it. As winter approached in 2004, Mainline Adrenaline decided to use their music to not only aid those struggling in the brutal Rochester winters but also to organize an event that would help demonstrate to the community that playing or enjoying loud, aggressive, intense music does not equate to being a degenerate element of society. The first Hardcore for the Homeless event was held in December of 2004. The event focused on collecting donations in the form of food and clothing to benefit the Open Door Mission of Rochester, NY. The concert event featured performances by MLA as well as Rochester-based The Inside and was held at Milestone's on East Avenue. The event received wide publicity and support from the media and community. The donation drive and concert event raised over $630 as well as nearly 60 large boxes of food and clothing collected around East Rochester and at the show.
In 2005 Mainline Adrenaline and its supporters stepped up their efforts. The benefit event raised over $1700 for Friends Helping Friends, a Rochester-based charity group focused on providing housing assistance to homeless and low-income families. Through the sale of event t-shirts, ticket sales and business sponsors the Hardcore for the Homeless event was able to provide funds to aid FHF in aquiring mass refrigeration capabilities allowing them to provide increased food support to those struggling in the community.
